Iren Ambiente S.p.A enters into contracts with Atersir for the concession of the public waste management service for the Parma and Piacenza territorial basins for the next 15 years

The contracting authority of the Emilia-Romagna Territorial Agency for Water and Waste Services (ATERSIR) has entered into contracts with Iren Ambiente, a company controlled by Iren S.p.A., for the award of public service concessions for waste management in the territorial basins of Parma and Piacenza with a duration of 15 years, starting from 1 January 2023.

The overall assignment of the two concessions - awarded following public tenders - regards 89 Municipalities for a total auction base amount of 1.3 billion euros. The rebates based on the tender presented by Iren Ambiente will allow savings for the local area of almost 60 million euros over the 15 years.

 

The Parma area includes 43 Municipalities for a total of over 425,000 inhabitants served, while the Piacenza area includes 46 Municipalities for a total of approximately 286,000 inhabitants served.

 

Thanks to the management of the waste service operated by Iren Ambiente in past years, the Parma area was able to achieve a percentage of separate waste collection of 80% while the Piacenza area 72%, values much higher than the national average of 63%. Strengthened by the results achieved, Iren Ambiente will invest 120 million Euro in the 15 years of concessionsto improve the quality of the service through the entry of new collection vehicles, including electric ones, the extension of door-to-door services to all fractions of waste and the implementation of pay-as-you-throw tariffs.

We are already starting from a position of excellence for the high percentages of recovery and recycling achieved: with a renewed commitment we will further increase the percentage of sorted waste collection, we will extend pay-as-you-throw collection system, we will encourage the reduction of waste production, and the recovery of energy and materials."
